Week 4 (February 1st-7th)

Moderators for this week:

Joanna   joannarodiki@yahoo.com

Sandra  SandRogers123@yahoo.com

Objectives:

During this week's session, we will:

  1. Look at examples of projects based on e-mail communication among classes
  2. Read the lists on Useful Tips While Selecting Online Activities.
  3. Have a discussion on the points included on these lists.

   4.   Think about problems that might occur while working on the Internet with young learners.

   5.   Attend a live virtual text chat on Tapped In (TI)

Activities

Email Communication Projects

1.  Read a few things about projects based on e-mail communication among different classes.  Visit www.epals.com, a safe and monitored community, to find out how pupils from different countries can work together on common projects.  (TIP: For younger learners, e-mails can be prepared in the classroom and then written and sent by teachers.)

Comment on the Useful Tips list

  1. Read all the lists of Useful Tips that participants uploaded on the whiteboard of Internet4younglearners at   .

    2.  Post a message with your comments regarding the lists of other participants to the group

         at Internet4younglearners@yahoogroups.com

     3.  Reply to the email messages regarding your list.

Group discussion

Join us at Internet4younglearners at .

After you complete all the activities, try to :

  1. establish a final list on tips.
  2. share with the rest of the group your experience or your thoughts on problems that you have to deal with when using the Internet in your classroom.

Join us at TappedIn (TI)

Join the moderators for a live text chat on Tapped In (TI)  http://tappedin.org/tappedin/

" The online workplace of an international community of education professionals."

Note: If you are unable to attend the TI event on Friday the 5th, there is another opportunity for you to take a TI guided virtual fieldtrip on Sunday the 7th at GMT 14:00-15:30.  Go to the TI Learning Hub office and an expert from the TI online community will lead the tour.  Sandra will be there to take the tour with you as a participant.

  1. If you haven't already, register at TI.  You need to do this at least 48 hours prior to the virtual meeting.
  2. Meet us online on Friday February 5th at GMT 17:00 in the TI Reception Room first.
  3. We use the text-based chat format on TI for communication and be online for one hour.

We will answer any questions you may have regarding TI or any other aspect of the course.

Then we will visit the virtual offices of moderators, Joanna and Sandra.

Afterwards we will visit the K-3+ Resource Room in TI and investigate.  From the virtual office of SandraR (TI ID), you will find a "passageway" to the K-3+ Resource Room.  This room  has a plethora of material, so you may stay as long as you like.

Watch this YouTube video on how to use TI; it is for a different session and not how to get to our offices.  It is for those of you who are visual or auditory learners.

Joanna,
What is your TappedIn ID or office name? Mine is SandraR. I set up the GMT for 13:00 on 2-7-2010. We can change it if necessary.
Thanks,
Sand

I have added another Tapped In event on Sunday, February 7th at 14-15:30 GMT. You only need to attend one of the events, so pick the most convenient time.
